They’re one of the hottest house bands of 2007, their critically acclaimed self-titled 2006 album was re-released in the second half of this year due to massive popular demand and the deliciously filthy Dirty South remix of ‘The Things You Say’ comPLETEly blew up in dance floors up and down clubland. Now Cicada headline alongside Seb Fontaine and Luke Dzierzek at Type @ The Island this Saturday (December 1st) and they’re revving things up before the party with an exclusive interview on Steve Smart’s Floorfillers’ from 8pm on Kiss 100.
The talented trio, ‘Mr Natural’ Aaron Gilbert, keyboardist Alex Payne and Icelandic vocalist Heidrun Bjornsdottir (formerly of Gus Gus) are tipped as one of the biggest acts to watch blow up in 2008. Called “a mix between Blondie, New Order and Daft Punk” (London Lite), there were full on stage invasions at their first ever London show; they played 5000 capacity gigs in the middle of some of England’s leafiest forests; and they gave one of the most talked about dance shows at Glastonbury earlier this summer. Having played alongside the likes of The Beastie Boys, DJ Yoda, Cassius and Cut Copy, they look set to follow in the footsteps of CSS and Spektrum as the next indie dance band to fall in love with.
Sampling the original 80’s Roxy classic their next release 'Same Old Scene' is out this week on Critical Mass label and is a gorgeous fusion of electro and guitar, an orchestral feel backed up with synthed out vocals that should storm across dance floors over the next few months. You'll be able to hear one of the very first plays this Saturday on Steve's show just hours before they play live at Type.
