Tidy Storm

With various family commitments and other obstacles that threatened my chances of a Friday night's stomping cast to the back of my mind, I'd decided that I would be going to to Tidy Storm afterall.

I'd been looking forward to the event for some time - well over a month. At the last minute I'd been reminded of a family event happening on the same day/evening as the stunning line up that would see Paul Glazby b2b with Tara Reynolds, Paul Maddox b2b with Guyver and Andy Pickles (of the Tidy Boys) b2b with Lisa Lashes.

It looked as if I wasn't going to be able to make it to Tidy Storm... But my love of hardhouse won through, and with some stern talking-to from Groovester on MSN the night before, I decided that I just had to go.

Finishing work at at 1pm, I headed into Birmingham city centre to grab a bit of shopping and to have a quick drink with a friend. Then it was time to head home, get ready and head back into the city centre to catch a train to Tamworth, from where Bungle was giving me a lift.

Arse, feck, bollox. The 20:03 train was cancelled, and the next wasn't until 20:47. Do you know when things start going wrong, and you just know this is going to be the start of a run of bad luck - and the whole day/night is going to end up fooked. Well this is the feeling I suddenly got. Luckily, this was a false insecurity as the night turned out to be fantastic.

Arriving at Tamworth train station, I headed out to the car park where Bungle had just pulled up. I got in the car and off we headed for Coalville... In practically the opposite direction! Bungle realised pretty quickly, and we decided that it was his in-built homing device that all Sundissential lovers have in their hearts that caused this to happen. At the following junction of the motorway, we headed back towards Coalville, and Tidy Storm. By this time the excitement was mounting, and we were becoming more and more animated to the tunes pumping from the car's speakers.

We pulled into the car park behind the Emporium - and there were a few fellow clubbers that'd decided to take a week-old poster off a lampost. Attached with a one-way cable tie (the plastic ones that you can pull tight, but have to cut to open them), they weren't having much luck. One of them explained that it was for her clubbing wall, and so I stepped in to help. After a few minutes, and everyone else giving up, I'd got the thing off - much to the delight of the young lady that wanted it.

Finally, it was time for us to head to Tidy Storm. We met Groovester in the queue and headed on in. I was shocked not to get a ticket for my bag in the cloakroom - but this was a small, friendly club. The tunes were banging and hard from the minute we stepped through the door, which was good to hear! With one of the Storm Troopers (the name given to the resident DJs at Storm) in hospital, they had decided not to open one of the rooms. Also, the upstairs part of the chillout room was closed.

With part of the club closed, a very encapsulated and intimate atmosphere was born. This added to the nights electricity, smiles and enjoyment. At times it also caused the dancefloor to be over-crowded, and left a lack of room for a loon like myself to wave their arms and stomp like mad. At these times I just headed to the open corridors at one side of the dance floor - there could be found more room and better air flow, and my arms flying around in the open spaces.

The DJs were great, and the best set of the night really does have to go to Mr Glazby and Miss Reynolds - back to back they were amazing and let out some tunes. It was the first time I'd heard Glazby live, and I've got to say that I really was impressed. After he didn't play Afterssential several months ago, it was great to finally hear him spin. A special mention must also go to Andy Pickles and Lisa Lashes - they continued where Paul and Tara left off, and kept everyone stomping like mad, right to the very end.

Throughout the night I met a few new peeps off ClubTheWorld - Tidy_Girl for starters. Only had a few minute conversation with her as she was in a bit of a rush, but she seemed a great person. Also met Special_Jew. Again, had a brief conversation, and he seemed like a good guy. As did Chewi, who I got the last of his Digitek mix CDs off of.

6am came around all too quickly, and Storm were pretty strict on pulling the plug and getting people out the door. 'Twas a shame really as most of us were just getting going as it was time to leave. With no after-party-clubs that were known of, it was time to head home. The countdown could now start to the next big event, GodsKitchen Global Gathering, a week later.

Thanx must go to Bungle for the lifts, and to Groovester for making me see sense to go to Tidy Storm!
