April 2003 Music Reviews

KERNZY & KLEMENZA "BACK IN TIME" (ORRIG/INGO RMX) - (VACUUM)
After the good feedback we received from our previous release on Vacuum we thought we'd carry on with a similar effort. The tune starts with tight persussion & swirling sci fi noises setting a fast pace from the word go. We continue building with an array of stabs until a voice tells "Its time to start rolling!" a fierce rolling bassline is next on the agenda stepping things up a gear until the break is on us. A low filtered riff builds in the background amongst warm pad's and a vocal sample courtesy of "Donnie Darko" until the intoduction of a second madder riff to compliment things. All in all if you liked "Dont Be Afraid" this should be your cup of tea aswell. Ingo, who has long since hung up his bouncy gloves, delivers a storming remix, slowing things down to 140 bpm and giving the whole tune a much darker feel, the only way to describe it is somewhere between hard dance & techno.

TANGERINE 001 (WHITE LABEL)
Side A brims with intensity from the off with intelligent drums and a ruff n tuff driving bassline, cut up short stabs form the basis & texture of the movement along the track whilst the lead synth line bubbles full on in the attack on the aural senses. Hard as hell without going over the top . The B side is set within similar boundaries once again moving at a frightening pace and taking inspiration from old skool rave stabs backed with constantly introduced effects & rolling vibes melted down with distinctive filtering patterns that all winds up for a head strong conclusion for the more tougher beats orientated of us all.

STEVE ARNOLD "INFECTIOUS" (FIDGET RECORDS 002)
"INFECTIOUS" Techy rhythms and infectious beats are fused with a driving bassline and a repeated "CANT GET ENOUGH, CANT GET ENOUGH" female vocal, the stompin' pace continues up to the break where where we are met with a powerfull sinister riff and more of the female vocal... "YOU CAN FUCK ME IF YOU LIKE, ILL INFECT YOU EVEN MORE".This is a very orriginal track but still has enough orriginal formula to keep the dancefloor rammed. Produced by Alex Calver definately a name to be watching this year!

STIMULANT DJ'S "FUCK DA BEATZ (ORIG/LEE HASLAM RMX) - (STIMULANT 027)
After an extensive touring and international fixtures the Stimulant Djs are back on the case with another trademark party platter for the masses. "FUCK DA BEATZ" gives Stimulant their first release of 2003 bringing the catalogue upto 27. If you like your tunes big bold and brash then look no further as this track has it all - huge uplifting synths, infectious melodies, cool vocal bites and a dancefloor friendly arrangement all make for a fun filled 5 minute frolic. Tidy trax star Lee Haslam proves why he is hot property with a full on remix aimed strictly at the dancefloor. Galloping basslines punish the speaker whilst a huge retake on the lead melody ensures a sea of hands in the air whenever its played.

SAM REEVE & COLIN B "INTERPHAZE/GROOVE" - (HOTWAX)
First off we have 'Interphaze' brought to you by none other than Sam Reeve and Colin B. These boys can do no wrong of late and both have established their own styles within the hard dance scene. This track starts with choppy percussion and builds with cut up vocal leading up to a chunky driving bass-line with enough power to rattle any dancefloor! Next up is 'Groove'. This one takes a more hard house approach with a phat off-beat bass and neat percussion and keeps the trance element with the main riff.
