I strongly disagree.
The guy in the abattoir is just making a living like you or me. He does not condone animal cruelty any more than the millions of people who eat meat. He is just one link in a chain of people who keep the industry alive, from the butchers, to the supermarkets, to (most of all) the consumers.
I eat meat because I have no problem with the killing of animals for food - provided they do not suffer. (Hence I am cynical, for example, about battery hens, or halal slaughter.)
You can't scapegoat the people who do the necessary "dirty work" - the meat industry is consumer-driven so we (the meat-eating population) are all equally responsible! See no evil, hear no evil, and all that...
