Just bought a CD online, and it turned up and is Pc protected, anyone know a way around this, or do I have to return the album and download it for free instead?

[I would rather actually own it]

Do a Google search... IIRC there's something about taking a black marker to the very edge of the CD that gets you around this. Just so you can make a legal backup, of course.

IS it the very OUTSIDE, or INSIDE? It basically says block out track 1

I believe it's the very outside, although you write a CD from the inside out...

Gimme 2 mins...

Much weirdness, I started blanking out track 1, and ran out of ink in my marker, so wiped it clean with a bit of tissue, and now my CD player is recognising it fine, and allowing me to rip it to my Hard Drive!!! weird, but working :D

OK, it is only ripping at 5x instead of 16x but it seems to be ripping OK

in my secret mountain hideout!
another way round this is to record the cd in a package like cool edit ( yeah you have to play it at normal speed and re-track it ) then you can do what you like with it, all depends on how desperate you are

Interesting. Would I be correct in assuming that it actually copies the copy-protection too?
