Hi I have never made anything before, but I fancy having a go at making tunes on my computer...I have no idea how, does anyone know where I can start from...like which program to use, which will be simple enough to teach me the basics.

I want to make some funky d'n'b, electro-trance and techno-pop if that helps

thank you

fruityloops
Acid
reason 2.5

(TBH if you wanna try something cheap to get a taster, try Music2000 for playstation/PC, written some good tunes on that)

Good advice Blink.

Fruityloops would be an excellent starting point (I still swear by it).
Lots of people like Acid though I don't know much about it; I think it's quite easy to slap together a tune fairly quickly.

You'll (pretty much) have to get something like Reason or Cubase SX if you want to take your composing seriously, but they are a bit more expensive.

as with the others, i'd say fruity loops - its what i start people off with on the production workshop - fruity to me is as complicated as you want it to be.

if you go to http://www.furityloops.com you can download a functional demo before purchasing the full version..

It looks more complicated than it is..

FL Studio Producer Edition ($149)
FL Studio Fruityloops Edition ($99)
FL Studio Express ($49)

I've just started my dance music prodution course at the manchester school of sound recording and we've learning on Cubase SX 2 (brand spanking new) and reason at the mo, although the best advice if your starting form scratch is either acid or music2000 (for absolute beginners) and fruitlopps is cool aswell, but alittle more in depth than Acid.

Fruityloops is a lot more powerful/in depth than what people first think to be honest!!

Mr Happy, you can only buy it off the website, which is American, so the price depends on the exchange rate at that time.

If you like it, get the $99 version (it works out as less than £70). Trust me, that is an absolute bargain for how powerful it is.

i might try music 2000 because i am an absolute beginner and i don't fancy paying £70 for something i might not use after a month...what about those ejay thingymibobs?
