it pisses me off when when people who dont even listen to trance slag it off as not being as good as it used to be..

how the fuck would you know? scenes develop and change as time goes on (well..some do ). trance has got a lot more proggy since 98/99 so a lot of the tunes are less obvious now. to tell you the truth, i think trance was the cheesiest it ever was in that era. a lot of top anthems came out then, yes, but there was still as much shit out there too. loads of well commercial crap that got in the chart, so it made it seem like this was the biggest thing ever..

all these fucking comments like 'it was better when i was into it' stink of fucking shit to me...

thats like me saying the best era of techno was 96/97/98...cos thats when i was dj'ing it. it means a lot to me cos its an era i can relate to a lot...

WAKE UP AND SMELL WHAT YOU ARE SHOVELLING..

exactly it ment a lot more to me then because it's what got me into clubbing. then trance faded and the harder dance scene took over. there weren't many nights that were doing it or the nights that did had changed their style.

but as nearly everyone is aware i've been diggin my old stuff up and lookin out for the new stuff. I fuckin love trance. but like you said people say the best era because they relate to it more.

and yes crasha is pants now in my eyes. it's just the vibe the place gives off now. don't like it.

Im in agreement with Mod. Im hearing some awesome trance at the minute, that out does anything Ive ever heard before. DJs are trying alot harder to find "better" records (well thats how it seems to me) And it feels as though the sound has matured alot.

I think 2003 has been a wikid year for trance.

Hard to say. I remeber a lot of tunes like Cafe Del Mar and Age of Love from 1992, but I wasn't into clubbing then! I'd say some of the trance about in the last few years has been brilliant, I've had some fab nights at Bedrock and Gatecrasher @ Heaven. Fuck it, can't decide on a year!!!!

complete agreement mate..

hence Tiesto being 'the man of the moment'. he's pretty much single handedly reshaping the whole scene over the last two years... dragging it out of cliche-land (99-01) and inspiring loads of producers to take chances and put out some wicked stuff..

he was playing igor s 'boomerang' and DK 'murder was the bass' a long time b4 i heard it at any hard-dance night! at the same time as pushing tunes like motorcycle 'as the rush comes' and tomcraft 'loneliness' and wicked anthemic stuff.. the quality of music in the trance scene is better than ever!

why do you think the quality of trance has got better. I must admit there are some blindin tunes, but my fav era has to be my GC days just nothing comes close to it. As you had the atmosphere and the music. But you're right there are some top notch trance coming out.

My boss is well into his trance and loves making it hence why i've started to really like it again.

If you'd asked me a year ago, I would have said 98-99 (most of my trance music collection is from that era).

But despite phases of obsessive progressive / deep house / drum & bass / techno fanaticism, I've really got back into trance this year.

I've been very much inspired by some classic nights at Slinky and Serious, where they really crossover several different styles. I must say my thing at the moment is a fusion of techno/tech-house and trance. Tough-edged, but still uplifting and hypnotic!

oh bollox! wake up! mod in the same way that we are blinded by the fact we dont listen to trance anymore - u are blinded by the fact that u still do!

if trance is better now - why is cream not running anymore? why has crasher gone monthly? why are there generally alot less trance nights now? why are there less people into it?

Because there's more easy money to be made out of middle-of-the-road hard house!

You make the incorrect assumption that "more people liking X" means "X must be good". A lot of people like Blazing Squad...

In fact I would go as far as to say, the fact that less people are into trance now, actually suggests that it is better now... at least the days of the cheesy overblown commercial "big riff" trance are all but over.

i'll agree with that totally. probably why we're gettin better trance too, as it's not the "big thing" so not every producer and their dog are making it. So trance now isn't really being made to cash in some easy money because it will sell, rather because producers enjoy making it. well that's what i think anyway.

but to me you still can't beat that atmosphere from crasha 98-early 2000
