The Register Said: CES With solid state memory reaching the gigabyte base line, Toshiba has unveiled a tiny hard disk that's smaller than an inch. The 0.8 inch hard drive - that's about the width and thickness of an MMC or SD card - will come in 2GB and 4GB sizes, spins at 3600 rpm, and will ship in volume this Fall.

All these new storage media (USB memory sticks, external Firewire drives, etc etc) are driving down the prices of normal hard discs too.

e.g. for £50 you can get a 7200rpm 80Gig drive!

I was thinking of getting a better backup device than my shitty old Zip drive, but I might just get another hard disc for my regular backups, and use CD-Rs for occasional "off-site" backups.

The rate of technology these days is beyond impressive, the prices are of a resonable amount too.
