- get a train to derby (virgin leeds-birmingham route goes via derby)
- then get the central trains all-in-one ticket from derby for £25, which gets you return travel to uttoxeter, bus transfer from there to the park, and your park entry ticket.

buses to the park leave uttoxeter at something like 0910, 1010, 1110, and then leave alton towers in the evening every hour from about 1620 until 2020.
