Should we allow this ?
Personally I switch viewing signatures off - but guests will always seem them and why should certain nights get better (or any in fact) advertising ?
not sure how you can make a limit on sig sizes, but cant you have them turned off to anom users. that will make the site look cleaner to people new

I hate signatures, and even a funny one is tiresome after the nth time you've scrolled past it.

There's no easy answer...
I think a set of guidelines need to be drawn up, then as James suggests, those guidelines used by the moderating team. I'd maybe even suggest having a Mod whose specific job it is to mod sigs.
As for banning images in mods, where do you draw the line? CTW Admins have pictures in their sigs, quite rightly. However, have a guideline saying no images and they'll have to remove them too. If they don't, it would be seen as a "One rule for some, another for others" and would cause waves.
As for guidelines, many forum scripts allow a maxium character entry for sigs. Does UBB? If so, it may be prudent to turn that on and have a maximum number of characters for sigs.
Limiting to one or two small images may be a good move, and put it at the discretion of the Signature Moderator to decide what's acceptable and what isn't. Having one person specifically responsible for modding sigs would keep this consistent.
Just my thoughts - what do others think of them?

Besides, I seem to remember this thread being done in the past, and YOUR opinion James was that it didn't matter as the images were hosted off-site and didn't take up your bandwidth.
As claire says - i'm refering to the un-necessary space they take up on the screen when scrolling past them.
Once I've seen a picture 5 times I'm bored of it (excluding avatars lol) - especially FLYERS

I guess I see the issue as less trivial than you do. You have to look at people's signatures 99% of the time you are using the forums. James spends all this time refining the interface, to make the forums super-easy and slick to use, only for someone to make it vastly less usable by use of excessive signatures.
James: if I recall correctly, futureproducers.com has a max limit on the size of images in your signature.
