Jolly old Hertfordshire!!!
My mixer is slowly dying

So i'm on the look out for a new one!

I want something a bit better than my current one but don't have a lot to spend...

What are people's views on Behringer mixers?

They seem to only make mixers that are blatent copies of other companies.

Are these cheap alternatives worth a look or should I steer clear of them???

Discuss.....

Behringer mixers are good m8y if do't inttend on using it on a club, they make cheap replicars of mixers like vestax and pioneer, infact the repilac djm600 they recently released is really good as my friend bought it.

Was just looking at that one (The DJX700) a bit more in my price range than it's Pioneer brother...

I'd get it if i was u m8y, its a great bit of kit for its price plus lots of extra. It does everything a boring Vestax does and more for cheaper.

looks good, but missing the best bit of the djm600... the sampler!

being able to loop parts of a tune over itself allows for some interesting tricks :-)

It would be interesting to see how long they last - my DJM600 has been going for 4 years and is still as good as new. The only glitch was when beer got spilt on it and one of the channel faders when sticky, so I replaced it. From what I've seen and heard of Behringer mixers (my mate has a small two channel one) they seem fine for home use. To be fair at that price you cant grumble at all.

Ive used one of these new "pioneer look-a-likes" from behringer. And have to say it was the nuts. Dont think it would be as durable as a pioneer but for the price you cant complain. Plus for home use it wont get that much of a battering.

Behringer have been taken to court several times, most recently by mackie. Behringer had totally copied one of mackies flagship studio mixers.
Basically they take say the pioneer 500, take it apart to see how its built and rebuild it using cheaper parts and components.

It makes you wonder whether you really do need supposedly "premium" components. It would be interesting if someone actually did some research into the durability of mixers relative to price.

I don't doubt that the Behringers are inferior in build quality, but if their products are half the price, then the competitors' products would have to last twice as long to merit the price tag (if you see what I mean).

Whenever you read reviews that go on about the supposed "amazing quality" of some expensive mixer, you wonder how far they've been sucked in by the hype (and price tag)...

Also, people who have bought the more expensive products tend to be more snobbish about their gear, and will rubbish cheaper alternatives.

well my mixer is at a push 2 years old and the eq faders's are a little crackley so theres no doubt in my mind that its worth the extra cash

just depends on what your after at the time i guess. at the time i needed something cheep with 3 channels and this mixer was perfect for that.

also u have to bare in mind that theres more then just durabilety to take into account.
* theres sound quality (which granted isnt as much an issue on home systems).
* theres the eq's. cheep mixers dont kill along the eqs tot he same extent that pricers models do. and i really do notice the difference

Behringer mixers.... your views?!

i've used a few of these in my time and perrsonally think they make good budget mixers, but thats all. I've used ones in clubs which are relatively new and have been hammered to bits. but if you want it for home use and you are not heavy handed and are gonna look after it then i can't see much wrong with going for one of these, if it fits your price range
